Vidot leaps to new NRL job

11 Jul, 2009 12:19 PM
Daniel Vidot was meant to start a new job working in a mail room this week.

The idea was to start from the bottom and work his way up.

Instead the 19-year-old plans to work from the top down, as part of a two-pronged aerial attack the Canberra Raiders will launch against Newcastle at EnergyAustralia Stadium tonight.

Vidot will make his NRL debut on the wing and the 187cm Brisbane-born powerhouse is confident he will have an immediate impact.

He will line up alongside fellow aerial specialist Joel Monaghan, meaning Newcastle's left edge can expect plenty of bombs to come its way.

''My attack is my major strength,'' Vidot said.

''People say I kind of play a similar style to [Queensland centre] Justin Hodges, but I'm a bit taller than Justin.

''Hopefully the height pays off for the bombs and what not. Lots of airtime out there.

''I used to play basketball so that helps, I'm good at jumping, hopefully that pays off.''

Monaghan is relishing the opportunity to have Vidot next to him.
