 Zillman haunts Canberra

Zillman haunts Canberra

18 Apr, 2009 10:46 AM
William Zillman broke the hearts of plenty of Canberra fans when he defected from the Raiders to the Gold Coast Titans at the beginning of the season.

And last night at Skilled Park on the Gold Coast the zippy utility back was at it again.

Zillman scored a controversial second-half try as the Titans managed a last-gasp 16-10 win over the Raiders.

Titans five-eighth Mat Rogers scored the match winner with less than two minutes left on the clock, to deny the Raiders a third-straight win in one of the most exciting finishes of the NRL season.

Rogers's try came just nine minutes after Raiders winger Adrian Purtell had scored an early contender for try-of-the-year, to haul his team back into what had appeared a dead contest.

But while the tries to Rogers and Purtell were the ones that kept the contest thrilling, it was Zillman's controversial four-pointer that really crushed the Raiders.

Video referee Phil Cooley awarded the former Raiders fullback the try, despite replays appearing to show both he and back-rower Mark Minichello were in front of kicker Scott Prince.
