Easts plea to old boys for more guidance

22 Aug, 2009 11:10 AM
Easts officials have urged former players to forget the on-field demise and off-field issues and help guide the club to a successful future.

On the field, the Easts' First XV will attempt to avoid a winless John I Dent Cup season when it plays Royals at Griffith Oval today.

While the result is important, the number of past players standing on the sideline will have a far greater impact on the club's future.

The club will hold an old boys day at the ground, hoping to lure former players to take on volunteer roles to keep the club afloat.

President Owen Brown has called on the Easts old boys to help rebuild ACT rugby's last stand-alone foundation club.

''We need to reconnect with the Easts old boys and get them back involved with the club,'' Brown said.

''We are struggling, but we've got plans in place.

''The Brumbies are helping us and I'm confident we will be here in the future.
