MATT Giteau has defended his form for the ACT Brumbies but pledged his best is yet to come and soon.
Speculation has mounted Queensland Reds flyhalf Quade Cooper has the edge over incumbent Australian No10 Giteau after the first half of the Super 14 season.
While Cooper's form has been hard to fault, Giteau has improved each week for the Brumbies.
He returned to somewhere near his best against the Auckland Blues at Eden Park on Friday night in a sign he will soon have critics running for cover.
His general kicking game has been faultless all season, as have his kicks for goal he has missed just two from 22 attempts in 2010.
It's only Giteau's lack of running the ball to the opposition line that has left him lagging short of his best, but the 27-year-old was confident that would change soon.
''I feel the past two weeks my game has really started to click into gear,'' Giteau told the Sunday Canberra Times.
''I certainly wasn't playing my best the first month of this competition and I'm sure I've still got improvement in me but I'm happy enough with the direction my game is heading.''I'm growing in confidence each week and with the competition now all-but half over for us I think things are positive for the Brumbies.''Giteau has started at flyhalf in each of the Brumbies' six Super 14 games this year, with Christian Lealiifano at inside centre. But the pair has switched positions for periods of each match, allowing Giteau time in both roles.
