Scrumhalves put on notice

06 May, 2009 11:07 AM
Brumbies coach Andy Friend will decide within a week which one of the three incumbent scrumhalves he wants retained at the club alongside new recruit Josh Valentine next season.

The Brumbies will confirm Western Force No9 Valentine's move to Canberra for 2010 some time this week possibly as early as today. All that leaves is to finalise whether Josh Holmes, Patrick Phibbs or James Stannard is retained to as the team's second scrumhalf.

With flyhalf recruit Matt Giteau also able to cover scrumhalf if necessary, Friend only wants two specialist No9s at the club next season.

Who joins Valentine remains a mystery but given Stannard has played only one game off the bench since joining the club this season, it's likely the race is between Holmes and Phibbs.
