Sweeping reforms to Super and Test rugby

20 May, 2009 11:41 AM
A rapid overhaul of Super rugby and the Tri Nations will see a longer domestic season and a set southern hemisphere Test schedule from 2011.

Super rugby's governing body SANZAR confirmed plans last night for an expanded Super15 competition, to run from February to August.

The schedule was finalised at a SANZAR meeting in Dublin last week and will be put to broadcasters next month.

The newly-structured competition will be divided into three five-team conferences one from Australia, one from New Zealand and one from South Africa.

Each team will play the others in its conference twice a year home and away as well as playing four of the five teams from each of the other two conferences.
