Wests say White's impact better late than never

15 Aug, 2009 04:41 PM
Nic White is determined to play an integral role in Wests' John I Dent Cup finals campaign, but he'll have to do it from an unfamiliar position.

The Brumbies Academy and Australian under-20 scrumhalf will line up in the Wests reserve grade team before sitting on the bench for the top squad against the Gungahlin Eagles today.

It's where he's likely to remain for rest of the regular season and finals.

At the start of the year, the 19-year-old barely knew the meaning of the term ''impact player''.

But after illness and representative duties hampered his bid to be Wests' first-choice No9, White said he was happy to launch his Super14 aspirations from the sideline at least for now.

''It's been a bit of a busy year and I guess because of that it's not really frustrating,'' White said.

''We've got a good No9 in Peter Raines and there's no point chopping and changing the team when I come back. I'm better off as an impact player rather than upsetting everyone else in the team.''

Wests can grab a top-four spot and end the Eagles' charge to the finals in their clash in the penultimate round of the regular season.
