Canberra United's Caitlin Munoz thought the worst when she was stretchered off in the first game of the W-League season.
After landing awkwardly on her left knee in Canberra's 2-1 loss to Newcastle, she was worried she would miss the rest of the season.
But a better-than-expected diagnosis meant Munoz returned in round six.
And since she has scored in four of United's final five games to help the team into the finals.
''I knew I had done something pretty bad to it as I've done it before, but luckily it wasn't too serious,'' Munoz said.
''It was tough missing those games, particulary the first home one which I thought I was going to make it for, but it's going good at the moment.''
Now the 25-year-old is keen to help United to a grand final berth with victory against the Jets this weekend.
''After the first game we've always said we wanted to come back and play Newcastle and have another shot at them,'' Munoz said.
''That was the first game of the season and some of us hadn't even met each other until the change rooms before the game.
''We've come a long way as a team since then.''
Canberra heads into Saturday's semi-final on a seven-game unbeaten streak.
Munoz said she expected individual players to excel, but was surprised at how well the ACT team had come together.
Munoz and the rest of the Canberra United squad had a soccer-free weekend and she said the break had been perfectly timed.
Canberra United resumes training today.
