Sullivan enjoying challenge of chasing records

09 May, 2009 12:08 PM
Swimsuits, Frenchmen and world records Eamon Sullivan has had enough of talking about them.

It's why ahead of his first international meet since the Beijing Olympics, in Canberra today, Sullivan has simply accepted his own world records are not the ones to beat anymore.

Instead he will be eyeing off the yet-to-be-ratified marks set by the two Frenchmen in question.

Both racing in yet-to-be-approved swimsuits, Alain Bernard was the first man to break 47 seconds for the 100m freestyle before Frederick Bousquet then stripped a third of a second off the 50m world record to finish in 20.94.

A specially-elected International Swimming Federation commission will meet in Switzerland next week to decide which suits will be legal for the world titles in Rome in July.

But Sullivan who said straight after the Frenchmen lowered the world marks that they should be scrapped if the suits weren't cleared is not too concerned about his old records.
