Climate change denier MP's Hitler comparison

25 Feb, 2009 12:22 PM
An opposition MP says humans are not causing climate change, and pointed to Adolf Hitler as an example of how scientists can be wrong.

Liberal MP Dennis Jensen's comments come days after his leader Malcolm Turnbull promised a greener climate change policy than the government's.

Dr Jensen cast doubt on the apparent scientific consensus that humans are affecting the climate.

"Albert Einstein was very much criticised by Hitler, and Hitler actually had a group of 100 top scientists in Germany write a book called 100 scientists against Einstein," Dr Jensen told reporters in Canberra.

"Einstein was asked: 'Doesn't it bother you Dr Einstein that you've got so many scientists against you?'

"And he said: `It doesn't take 100 scientists to prove me wrong, it takes a single fact'."

Dr Jensen, who has a PhD in the physics of ceramics, said he was a climate change sceptic.

Mr Turnbull says humans are affecting the climate and the problem must be addressed.

Dr Jensen said he differed with his leader on that.

Mr Turnbull has promised to set a deeper target to cut greenhouse gas emissions than the government.

"This is something that's still got to be discussed in the party room," Dr Jensen said.

When asked how reporters should sum up the opposition's climate change policy, the West Australian MP said: "I'll leave that to you to determine".

Dr Jensen on Wednesday launched an online petition which says the world is not warming at an unusual rate, and emissions trading should not go ahead.

Climate Change Minister Penny Wong called on Mr Turnbull to deal with Dr Jensen.

"Mr Turnbull knows it's the right thing to do to act on climate change," she told reporters in Canberra.

"It's up to Mr Turnbull to pull his people into line."

"Climate Change Minister Penny Wong called on Mr Turnbull to deal with Dr Jensen." "to deal with him". For goodness sake, this is like the Spanish Inquisition hunting for non-believers, people with different opinions. The left are so called champions of free speech and questioning authority and challenging general held beliefs (as Einstein above), but anyone who doubts MAN MADE climate change is considered evil, stupid or pushing a hidden agenda! The more Dr Jensen's in parliament who don't just vote along party lines and look at each issue independently, the better! Maybe it's time the Australian Labor Party changed it's rules and allowed MPs to have a voice and not expel them in a draconian manner if they have a different view, as they do now.

I used to think global warming was caused by us until I watched The Great Gloabl Warming Swindle. Maybe Penny Wong and Malcolm Turnbull should buy a copy.

If Dr Jensen is comparing the IPCC to Hitler, he's even more out of touch with reality than most of the polluters' advocates. It just goes to show the desperate lengths to which those who want to retain the right to use the biosphere as a cheap dumping ground for effluent will go when they think their cause is on the nose.

Scientists Continue to Debunk "Consensus" in 2008. I did not hear a peep about it in the mainstream media.

The Great Global Warming Swindle was a swindle indeed! Eight of the scientists appearing on it can be linked to neo-con think-tanks that receive funding from Exxon, and every bit of "science" in it has been refuted by truly independent scientists in peer reviewed papers. If you risk manage the problem, you'll quickly understand that being wrong in one direction will be catastrophic.

Unfortunately, it seems everyone is entitled to call themselves an expert on climate change these days, even if they don't know the first thing about real science, or even if they have a PhD in a totally unrelated topic, like Dr Jensen. If the IPCC says climate change is caused by our never before seen fossil fuel based life style, you better accept it. I haven't seen the Great Global Warming Swindle, but I've heard that it's based on bad science.

There seems to be a serious retention deficit inboth media and the Minister for Climate Truth because my reading of the piece makes it very clear that Jensen's reference is primarily to the attempted isolation of Albert Einstein by way of IPCC style "consensus", not Hitler. That comparison remains spot on.

To all climate change sceptics. Millions of years of captured CO2 has been released in just 250 years. This gas does not evaporate into space, it concentrates in our atmosphere and heats the planet! I'm as much against government interference in our lives as the next man but this issue is deadly serious and its about time you all dug your heads out of the sand and faced reality! Please wake up, our children and grandchildren need you to hear and recognize the truth of our situation, before it is too late. The "global warming is a hoax" believers don't understand the difference between informed opinion, uninformed opinion, misinformed opinion and totally ignorant opinions. So there's a handful of scientists who say climate change is not affected by humans, and hundreds that say it is affected by humans. As a non-climate scientist myself, it sounds like some people are suggesting it's better to listen to the handful than the hundreds. What about evolution then? There's a handful of scientists that say intelligent design is a better theory, and hundreds that say evolution is better. Should I believe the handful again? There are people who will "believe" anything they want to; the question is whether anyone has a scientifically credible justification for that belief. It was predicted over a century ago that rising CO2 concentrations in the air would warm the planet. Now it seems to be doing just that, just as predicted. If anyone can explain why things should not work in this way, then I'd be interested to hear, but so far there are just no completing ideas, just beliefs stemming from whatever source, and an active campaign at disinformation sponsored by the fossil fuel industry.
