BRISBANE captain Darren Lockyer won't be punished by the club after he admitted tackling a bar manager during a drunken night on the town.
Lockyer initially denied he was the man captured on CCTV footage tackling Casablanca manager Terry De Gunten, who approached the players about taking drinks on to the footpath.
However, the Kangaroos playmaker yesterday made a stunning backflip after new footage proved he was the culprit.
"More footage come [sic] out yesterday, apparently, which proves that I was the person that made the tackle on the manager there," Lockyer told Fairfax Radio.
"If that's the case, my intentions wouldn't, you know, have been intimidating. If I offended anyone, then I apologise."
The admission comes after a horror week for the Broncos, in which three of their stars - Karmichael Hunt, Sam Thaiday and Darius Boyd - were accused of sexually assaulting a woman in a nightclub toilet. No charges have been laid.
Broncos boss Bruno Cullen said no action would be taken against Lockyer, and the incident had been blown out of proportion.
"It was a bit of frivolity," Cullen said last night. "I didn't think the incident warranted the attention it got.
"As Wayne Bennett said, whether it was Lockyer or not, who cares? It somebody having a bit of fun."
It's unlikely the incident will harm Lockyer's chances of captaining Australia at this year's World Cup.
"He's done a great job in the past," ARL boss Geoff Carr said. "It would take a fairly major incident for the board to consider him unsuitable
In the short term, if the Broncos believe it wasn't an issue, that would have a reasonable bearing on what we decide to do."
