Palin's no loser with '$11m book deal'

17 Nov, 2008 10:25 AM
She won't be Vice President but Sarah Palin stands to cash in on her tilt for high office, with multi-million contracts for books and talk shows appearances expected to come her way.

Literary agents were queuing up to sign Palin to a book deal that could earn her up to $US7 million, The Times reported.

The recent election campaign was sure to result in hundreds of books by journalists and politicians, but "Palin's personal account of her tumultuous introduction to national politics" would be the most lucrative story, it said.

"Every publisher and a lot of literary agents have been going after her," said Jeff Klein of Folio Literary management.

"She's poised to make a ton of money," public relations expert Howard Rubenstein said.

A spokesman for publisher Random House told the New York Post: "There are several of our imprints who are eager to talk to Governor Palin. She clearly has a constituency and we know books by conservatively-centred politicos usually sell very, very well."

It was not yet known what sort of deals a Palin book could attract, but the contract was sure to be compared to a deal signed by comedian Tina Fey, who played Palin in a series of spoofs on Saturday Night Live, a publishing source told The Post.

"That's an interesting question because everybody will compare what she gets to the book deal Tina Fey reportedly made - $6 million," the source said. "No matter what it is, the betting is she'll sign a deal by the end of the month."

But books weren't Palin's only opportunity to cash-in, with commentary spots on Fox and CNN also a possibility, The Post said.

Linda Mann, of Mann Media, told the paper: "Her buzz is incredible. She has car-wreck appeal. You're compelled to watch, hoping she'll say the dumbest things possible. I'd propose a show combining her love of fashion and lack of brainpower - 'Project Dumbway'."

However, Mr Rubenstein warned Palin against blindly chasing the cash.

"She ought to keep an eye on what her goals are for 2012. If she plays a game and looks foolish, if she sounds like she doesn't know what she's talking about - like saying Africa is a country - she may talk herself out of a political job," he said.

After her well-publicised campaign, Palin was now in a similar position to that of President-elect Barack Obama in 2004, a "mostly unknown Chicago politician" who found himself in the spotlight after "a mesmerising speech to the Democratic convention", his election to the Senate and the launch of his book, 'The Audacity of Hope', The Times said.

Palin was now a likely candidate for the Senate seat representing Alaska, the paper said.

No body cared when Obama the president elect mentioned he has visited 55 states and TWO more to go, and now that guy would be the president, No body cared when he was looking for his identity when he is NOT from slave generation, Why to make big story about Palin. 80 percent of Americans think Canada is either a province or a city. Majority of media experts have no clue about the world out side the USA; for them 9/11 was a blessing in disguise that they can talk about the world.

its hard not to imagine the republicans did not want to win this election. why else would they field a self appointed war hero, who the older he got the better he was, and the fool from the frozen north. lose this one and hope the world blames the democrats. similiar to what happened here really. the republicans may be rogues and crooks, but they can never be called stupid.

It's good to see her make some money after publications hostile to her such as Newsweek made money off her. The initial reaction of the media was telling. They hated her even before they could articulate why, which was simply that she was pro-life conservative woman.

Threatened by Palin? Lol. Truth is that many people actually spent time researching her record, thoroughly, and weren't at all impressed with what they found. As for her vituperative assaults on the campaing trail? Repugnant...that's what lost her the election, as well as the Couric/Gibson interivews. She appeals to the not-so-very bright. We have no doubt people will buy her book...look how well Paris Hilton is doing.

Frederick Pittera: I like your post. Your post is well thought out than the critics' own article on AOL. Sarah Palin is like one of the survivors. In spite of the "modern day and age" we are still somewhat barbaric in our approach to talented and gifted women like Sarah Palin. She also has a built in disadvantage, being a woman herself. It is laughable for these pseudointellectual critics lambasting Sarah Palin like their own opinions are the gospel truth. Their only advantage to Sarah Palin and for most of us is because they are paid so called journalists. Scholarly, they are NOT! If their articles or write ups are not glazed with bitterness, strong hints of jealousy and plain impotence at providing a fair and honest "criticism" of Sarah Palin, then I believe they would garner more believers than loathers. Sarah Palin's time as the vice presidential candidate was SHORT. She came into the "limelight" with limited opportunity to show her character. Katie Couric, the cougar hostess with lots of plastic surgeries (at least that's how she looks nowadays) of whatever that television channel is, had helped to perpetuate the pseudointellectuals' negative and bitter criticism just for a ratings's boost. It is a shame that Katie Couric had to use another female and downgrade that other female (Sarah Palin) in order to keep her job. Katie Couric has no true and real talent except to bash someone to make a "killing" or rating. What a shame! There are too few real females who do not claw the other females to the grave these days. It's like the queen bee, they had to be the it and so the others must be debased. Katie Couric and all these other pseudointellectual journalists should set a new paradigm shift in reporting and forget the ratings or sensationalism. The tabloid magazines should be set apart from the "scholarly ones" if at all possible. To separate the wheat from the shaft supposedly. Ahhh, anyone can write and it just so happens that these writers are paid. Sad for those who are really good but do not have the opportunity to write scholarly ones, good ones, unbiased ones... And for the dinosaurs and the humans to coexist, duh, they did. It depends on who you believe as the authors of the books that you read. And likely dinosaurs are still coexisting with the humans these days. Just read the National Geography, dig up your science books, the Bible, etc... Check out the family of the kimono dragon, etc...And who coined the word "dinosaurs" by the way? And who set the criteria or tests that determine what "a million year" should be when they do carbon dating of prehistoric so-called animals? The scientists who have lived over a hundred years old id ever one had lived that long? Or the Bible characters who had lived for hundreds of years and not just for a hundred? Ahhhh, just mind boggling these people..... Ever learning, but the knowledge still eludes them. What a shame.

She is my hero. Her book will reach an all time best seller even better than gone with the wind.
