A luxury boat burst into flame and was later sunk by fire-fighters in the Iron Cove Bay, near the Drummoyne Sailing Club and the Birkenhead Point Shopping Centre on Saturday afternoon
The family of four onboard managed to esape on to the boat’s dinghy as the fire broke out shortly after 4pm.
Rescue crews arrived shortly after the blaze took hold. The cruiser was adrift and billowing thick black smoke as the fire-fighters boarded a Sydney Ports vessel to extinguish the blaze.

They were able to contain the fire and regain control of the boat at the base of the Iron Cove Bridge and halt it drifting into other vessels. The smoke caused a minor car accident on the bridge.
A spokesman for the NSW Fire and Rescue service told Fairfax Media the boat had been towed to Snapper Island in the Iron Cove Bay.
It will be sunk on Saturday evening to ensure there is no chance of the fire re-igniting.

Hazard management teams will monitor the sunken boat and immediate surrounds throughout the night and on Sunday to contain and manage any pollution to the marine area.
The spokesman said it was likely the boat would be re-salvaged next week.
The cause of the fire is still unknown.
