Bondi residents are calling on police and Waverley Council to enforce alcohol-prohibited zones more strictly as a 23-year-old man lies in a coma after his head was stomped on during a drunken brawl in a park.
Michael McEwen was drinking on the grass near Bondi Beach with dozens of others about 1.45am on Saturday when he was punched by a man, who then stomped on his head. Police are yet to identify the attacker.
Lenore Kulakauskas, who has lived in Bondi for 30 years and is a community representative on the liquor working group on Waverley Council, said young people were drinking out in the open in alcohol-prohibited zones near the beach every day.

''The council tells people they can't drink there, but then they don't enforce that; they need to patrol and manage those areas more effectively,'' she said.
Waverley mayor Sally Betts said the council had worked hard to minimise antisocial behaviour.
''Our rangers patrol all of the alcohol-prohibited zones four or five times per day, so they're never more than a few minutes away,'' she said.
However, she conceded patrols did not occur between 9pm and 6am.
