Cause of fatal south coast plane crash released

Investigations into the cause of a plane crash off Barlings Beach in July have revealed a potential fault with the aircraft's control system.

The crash killed both occupants, experienced flight instructor Graham White and the plane's owner Ralph Buchanan.

Recreational Aviation Australia'sMichael Linke said the organisation had issued an airworthiness advisory notice to all amateur-built aircraft owners to inspect the control systems for all aircraft with similar control systems.

"Investigations are ongoing with the co-operation of Batemans Bay detectives, including an assessment of the engine to rule out engine failure," he said.

The ultra-light plane crashed into the ocean more than a kilometre off Barlings Beach after leaving Moruya Airport around noon on Sunday, July 6.

The body of Mr White was recovered on the day of the crash while Mr Buchanan's body was later found in the wreckage.

The salvage effort spanned eight days, leaving much of the plane and electronic equipment exposed under water.
