A driver that failed to stop on the central coast led police on a 70-kilometre chase down the M1 on Monday night, with up to eight police cars in pursuit.
An smh.com.au reader said police began to pursue the car at Ourimbah. When the reader got to Killara, 70 kilometres down the road, she saw the car burnt on the side of the Pacific Highway, with police cars surrounding it and a police helicopter flying overhead.
Police began the pursuit when the car - a blue Ford - did not stop as requested, a police spokeswoman said, and they ended it in Killara.
She said the incident was ongoing and more information would be available later on Monday night.
