Fatal stabbing at Sydney bus shelter

A man has been charged with murder after another man was fatally stabbed at a bus stop on Sydney's northern beaches last night.

Officers said they went to the bus stop on the eastern side of Pittwater Road, near Warringah Mall, in Brookvale, about 11.40pm and found the 22-year-old victim, from Allambie Heights, with "puncture wounds" to his chest.

They gave him first aid before paramedics arrived and he was taken to the Royal North Shore Hospital. But he was declared dead on arrival, police said.

A 25-year-old man, from Manly Vale, was arrested and taken to Dee Why police station this morning.

He was charged with murder and refused bail. He is due to appear in Hornsby Local Court today.

A police spokeswoman could not say what the motive of the attack was and if the men knew each other.

"The circumstances leading up to the incident are still unknown," she said.

A knife was recovered at the scene and it will be forensically examined, police said.

Detectives are continuing to speak to a number of witnesses.

Police have appealed for anyone with information to phone Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
