A fisherman who fell three metres onto rocks in Balmain phoned emergency services to say he had broken his leg and needed to be rescued.
The 36-year-old man was fishing at Elkington Park in Balmain about 1.30am on Monday when he slipped and fell down an embankment, police said.
The fisherman, from Granville, was able to phone triple-0 and tell them he was on the rocks at the base of the park, next to the Dawn Fraser Baths. He told them he believed he had broken his leg.
Police and paramedics arrived a short time later and lifted the man from the rocks to an ambulance.
He was taken to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, where he remained in a stable condition on Monday morning.
