Man driving stolen car arrested after police pursuit, crash at Moruya golf course

A man who led police on a high-speed pursuit in a stolen car was arrested after he crashed through a south coast golf course gate, NSW Police say.

Two off-duty police officers apprehended the 20-year-old man at Moruya, after he fled a service station on the Princes Highway at Batemans Bay without paying for fuel or food on Monday night.

He also failed to stop at the scene of a fatal crash at Mogo while driving a white Audi, believed to have been stolen at Sydney airport earlier in the day.

Police officers gave chase but the pursuit was called off due to bad weather.

The man later smashed the car through the gates of the Moruya golf course, where he was taken into custody.

He was charged with six offences including theft, failing to stop and dangerous driving.

He was refused bail and will appear at Bega Local Court on Tuesday.
