Man on murder charge refused bail

A man accused of shooting a man dead in front of his wife and child in Sydney's west was refused bail at court on Saturday.

Falah Alkanaan, 27, of Blackett, appeared briefly before Parramatta Bail Court charged with the murder of Cranebrook man Hussein Khanafer, 31, who was fatally shot in the head outside a Blackett house he was visiting last Saturday.

Police investigating the matter said he was shot within a metre range about 1.15pm and was pronounced dead at the scene on Boldrewood Road.

Alkanaan was arrested trying to collect a boarding pass for a Darwin-bound flight at Sydney Airport's domestic terminal on Friday, police said.

He was taken to St George police station where he was charged with one count of murder.

The accused did not apply for bail and was formally refused by Magistrate Gail Madgwick.

He appeared via video link, wearing a khaki, hooded jumper with words "Bad boys" printed across the front and said "thank you" to the court when he was formally refused bail.

Police said they did not believe the murder had any links to a shooting of a 21-year-old man at Bidwill hours earlier the same day.

He will next appear before Mount Druitt Local Court on Wednesday where police expect he will make an application for bail.
