Queanbeyan station, Moss Vale police station and Huskisson police station are all to receive upgrades or new buildings, as flagged earlier this year.

The budget includes a $9-million spend in 2015-16 on the Ellerton Drive extension near Queanbeyan, $500,000 for overtaking lanes and upgrades on the Monaro Highway from Williamsdale to Cooma, and $500,000 for improvements to the Kosciuszko Road near Cooma and Jindabyne.

John Barilaro, the member for Monaro, said the Queanbeyan police station was now expected to cost $17 million, up from the $15 million previously thought.

"There is yet to be any design work done, so funding is allocated over four years, so what they will do this year is commence the planning and scoping.

"We are building on the existing site, which makes it difficult to quantify," Mr Barilaro said.

Bega member Andrew Constance said $6 million was allocated to realign the Kings Highway between Batemans Bay and Nelligen and $1 million was announced to start work on the new Batemans Bay bridge.

Funds were also included for continuing work on the Princes Highway Foxground and Berry bypass.

Goulburn member Pru Goward said the spend would put money in tradies' pockets.

"There is a big infrastructure spend, $63 billion, which means all our tradespeople and small business get a share of that," she said.

She said Goulburn hospital funding will come out of forward estimates.

Doug Nyholm, vice chairman of the Shoalhaven branch of the Police Association of NSW, said while he welcomed the $1.41 million to start work on a new Bay and Basin station to replace the one at Huskisson, money was needed to beef up their "skeleton staff".

"It's all well and good to have these building but we need the staff to fill them out as well," he said.

Former Labor candidate for Monaro Steve Whan has previously said he supported better working conditions for Queanbeyan police but that it seemed the announcement was plucked out of a hat at the last minute.
