In good news for any spud on the snow, a new lift will replace the "advanced level" T-bar on Perisher's Leichardt run at the bottom of Back Perisher Mountain.

Perisher has published footage of the construction of the new four-person lift, part of which had to be lowered in by helicopter. The new lift is made of six new lift towers, which had to be lowered in by crane or helicopter.

Doppelmayr Australia general manager Shaun Turner said the materials had been brought all the way in from Austria to its Australian branch in Jindabyne.

Weeks of planning had been required to preassemble as much of the towers in Perisher's car park before they were lowered in.

"It's always exciting to build new lifts, especially so close to home," Mr Turner said.

Four of the towers were lowered in by helicopter because some of the ground too soft or steep for a crane.

The helicopter hovered with a tower over a pre-installed base on the mountain before workers connected it.

Workers climbed to the top of the tower to lower the final section - the cross-head - to the top.

Mr Turner said they still had to install the lift stations, where people get on or off, and the cables between the stations and towers.

The project began in November and would be finished by May, he said.

The new lift could also mean more of the mountain opens sooner. Mr Turner said T-bars required more snow meaning runs with T-bars on them had to be closed for longer.

Resort spokesman Joss McAlpin said he expected the new $4.2 million lift to increase lift capacity in that area by 75 per cent.

"Winter is on the way and Perisher is very excited about the season ahead," Mr McAlpin said.

The new lift will also mean more snow on the run with resort bringing some of its snowmaking machines from nearby Happy Valley.

It's the resorts second new lift in five years after the installation of the $4 million four-person lift at the back of Guthega Peak in 2014.
