Swimmer goes missing in choppy waters

A man is missing after wading into choppy waters on the NSW south coast, police say.

The search resumed at 7.30am (AEDT) today at Culburra Beach, near Nowra, after he was seen entering the ocean late on Saturday afternoon.

Witnesses who had been watching the man lost sight of him after briefly turning their attention away, police say.

Culburra and Kiama Surf Life Saving Club members, a NSW Ambulance rescue helicopter and police were unable to find him on Saturday afternoon.

The man is described as being of Caucasian appearance, aged 25 to 30, 165cm tall, of medium build, with short dark brown hair.

He was wearing blue board shorts.
