A motorcyclist and an elderly female pedestrian have been rushed to hospital, both in a critical condition, after an accident on Burwood Road at Burwood.

Just before 1pm on Friday, police and paramedics were called after reports the motorcyclist, a man aged in his 40s, had hit a woman in her 70s.

"The motorcyclist was in cardiac arrest," an Ambulance Service of NSW spokesman said.

One of the patients has been taken to Westmead Hospital and the other to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital.

Burwood Road has been closed in both directions, a spokeswoman for the Transport Management Centre said.

Police said the motorcyclist was overtaking a bus when the accident occurred.

Today’s crash follows a horror week on Sydney’s roads.

A truck driver, 41, was charged on Friday over Thursday’s fatal collision on the M1 (F3) on the Hawkesbury River Bridge at Brooklyn.

A 19-year-old woman was killed in the crash.

The truck driver, who was not injured, has been charged with dangerous driving occasioning death and negligent driving occasioning death.

He is expected to appear in court in June.
