A 41-year-old woman has allegedly taken to a man with a baseball bat after first trying to attack him with a chainsaw in southern NSW.

Just before 5am on Saturday, police say the woman approached the back fence of a home in Junee, near Wagga Wagga, armed with a chainsaw, and attempted to assault a man, 24, on the other side.

The woman left the scene, returning a short time later armed with a baseball bat and metal chain.

Police have been told the woman assaulted the man with the bat, leaving him with minor injuries.

They arrived soon after and were allegedly "confronted" by the woman.

She was eventually taken to Junee Police Station, where she was charged, among others, with assault, assaulting police and armed with intent.

She was refused bail and will appear at Wagga Wagga Local Court on Sunday.
