But the record and a "unique" Olympics is the furthest thing from the superstar's mind as she chases the Olympic gold medal, the only honour missing from her glittering career.

The Opals booked a semi-final clash with arch rivals the United States when they launched a second-half comeback to beat China 75-60.

It is the match most thought would decide the gold medal, but only one will be able to advance to the final.

The Opals will need Jackson at the peak of her powers if they want to move past the US.

For the past three Olympics, the Opals have stumbled at the final hurdle and had to settle for silver while the US have dominated the gold-medal contest.

"To be honest we haven't spoken about [playing the US] yet," coach Carrie Graf said.

"In a quarter final you can't be looking ahead. We got bitten on the butt at the world championships in the quarter finals [and finished fifth].

"We knew we didn't have a chance to meet the US or get into the medal rounds if you don't win the quarter final.

"We showed that we continue to be gritty, that if we hang tough we can make good things happen."

Jackson is having a whirlwind Games and not even an ankle injury could stop her from reaching another career milestone.

It was initially thought Jackson had clinched the all-time scoring record with her 18-point haul against Brazil.

But FIBA - basketball's international body - released a statement saying she still had to pass Brazilian Janeth Arcain's mark of 535.

Despite not scoring in the third quarter, Jackson helped the Opals lock away the match and her 12th point lifted her above Arcain.

Jackson, 31 and at her fourth Olympics, also carried the Australian flag into the opening ceremony.

She has been one the world's best players for the past decade and desperately wants a gold medal.

A massive scare went through the Opals camp when Jackson limped from the court before half-time.

But she dismissed the ankle injury as "getting old" and says she'll be ready to play the US.

"This has been a unique Olympics for Lauren," Graf said.

"If you ask Lauren if she could swap [the points record] to have the [game we lost to] France back or do something special at the end of this tournament, I think she would trade.

"But the record speaks volumes for the impact she's had on the world basketball scene ... she's an icon."

The Opals still have plenty to work on after they were on the cusp of being bundled out of medal contention by China.

Their shooting was poor in the first half, finishing with a 32 per cent conversion rate before finding their groove in the final quarter.

But a scoring blitz led by Elizabeth Cambage in the third quarter finally kicked the Opals back in front.

They held on to a slender lead at the start of the last quarter and Jackson helped seal the game with some big plays in the dying minutes.

Earlier in the day the US beat Canada 91-48 to advance.

Opals back-up point guard Sam Richards is expecting a fast and brutal match against the US.

"We've haven't spent a lot of time watching them ... but we'll watch a lot of film now. We'll do our best to stop the running game and energy they have," she said.
