Middle distance runner and former Canberra Girls’ Grammar student Zoe Buckman took an interesting qualifying route to the Olympics, according to the AOC website.

After missing the World Championship Olympic A qualifying mark, Buckman stayed in Europe to chase the Olympic A standard and bettered it in Rieti in September 2011.

Last year was a big one for Buckman: she won her first 1500m national title, and was also awarded the Steve Moneghetti Emerging Athlete of the Year Award.

This will be 23-year-old Buckman’s first Olympic Games.
