The Opposition Leader was kept busy up north this week, having volunteered for a working bee in Aurukun, north Queensland.
This is representative of the greater image of action man Tony Abbott.
Never short of an opinion and always willing to volunteer to fix anything, whether it’s a legislative issue or foreign ownership, he is always front and centre of any problem, and halfway to believing he has it solved before the rest of us are aware of it.
This week’s espresso video animation sees Abbott hard at it.

As long as there is a Television crew around he will fix anything. It's a shame he can't agree to the Malaysian off shore processing , that is too hard for him to say yes, He's a coward if there ever was one. Good cartoon though wish i had your talent , been trying to draw his face for a long time as i have good ideas too.

- The Malaysian solution wouldn't fix anything. Tony has the fix, its called the Pacific solution, and the figures don't lie.

- It's a shame that Labor dismantled a working system - now we have had a boat with the most boat people seen in a very long time. Why give a lame duck government something that it wants?

- Liklik - The Malaysian solution wouldn't fix anything - how do you know???
  With regard to the Pacific solution Liklik, if you have the figures please feel free to share them, how many asylum seekers were resettled? How many were sent home?? and the ones that were resettled again were too??

- liklik, the figures absolutely do lie. If once upon a time a stint on a Pacific Island had some deterrent value, it no longer does by virtue of the fact that most asylum seekers were found to be genuine and were resettled in the region; the people smugglers would put that on their advertising brochures in bold colourful letters.
  The figures also say nothing about context; the boats waxed and then waned with the level of conflict around the world - almost a perfect match.
  Finally, we have international obligations not to behave in the way we are. That both Labor and Liberal have decided to turn their back on conventions, and our previously bipartisan approach to help rather than harm desperate refugees, is an absolute disgrace.

- Another boat of people arrived overnight. This one is the biggest in terms of numbers (over 200).
  One big huge failure in leadership from the Prime Minister. Too proud to adopt the solution we all know works.
  And don't hold your breath on the report from the committe she set up. They already know what they are supposed to report. It is all a farce, it is all smoke and mirrors.

- Buffalo Bill - The figures are irrefutable. What caused them can be debated but Rudd & Gillard were naieve in the extreme and let their idealistic opposition view dictate the in goverment view.
  Jofek - As above - however I personally believe we do, as a civilised society, have obligations towards genuine refugees. We need to have in place a viable, clear cut, alternative to people getting on boats to take their chances.
  While I'm at it the Greens solution is madness overload. Anyone who makes it is IN! How many boats do they think will come then?
  Can't believe I'm saying this but Clive Palmer came up with an attractve thought. Have our people on the ground there (e.g. Indonesia) early process there. Fly them here (no boats) at our cost & spend the next month processing them. If not refugees fly them back. If genuine they join us.
  Think about it. He calculated half the current costs and elimination of people smuggling.

- Che, it's absurd to point at one side or another and say 'it's their fault'. Are you aware neither side is moving on this (although Gillard gave an inch in being prepared to include Nauru, but Abbott has not moved at all). Both 'solutions' are equally ugly and irresponsbile and at best can only point refugees in other directions. That at the end of the day is all anyone wants - to make it someone else's problem.

- I'm pretty sure the number of arrivals slowed when the Malaysian issue was being debated in parliament and tested in the courts.So given a go it might have worked. The courts put a stop to that though didn't they.
