The school opened in 1968 and has only closed once, in 2003 due to the war and was destroyed in 2004 when it was looted and burnt by gangs. Students sit normal classes in the mornings and their elective dance and music lessons in the afternoon. Under the ever present threat of the Islamic State attacks in Baghdad, behind the armed gates that protect the school, young Iraqi's are finding beauty in music and ballet.
