Dateline: Singapore. Maximising the use of its small land mass, Singapore has created green spaces on reclaimed harbour land, combining them with some striking architecture. Marina Bay Sands Hotel has a sky garden, seen here through the branches of the metal trees in the adjacent botanical gardens. These trees are planted out with a vertical garden and play a role in water catchment. Photo: Lex Lees

![Dateline: Magelang, Indonesia. During the Waisak [Buddhist] Festival, the monks complete three circles of the Borobudur temple while praying and then release 1000 wishing lanterns to the full moon. It was a most enchanting evening and I think this monk looks so peaceful as he prepares to send his lantern to the night sky.](http://images.canberratimes.com.au/2012/06/01/3341643/port-Snapped-Magelang-Indonesia-80x80.jpg)
