  • Didn't the Hawks win that one in 1989? On a day like today (well done to both Sydney and Hawthorn on great seasons, and best wishes to all involved) we Hawthorn fans need as many positive memories as possible!

  • Granted, journalists write copy to get to a print deadline, but seriously: the Hawks had the chance to be the greatest team of the modern era? The greatest team of the modern era is the team that Hawthorn haven't been able to beat since 2008 (and how have managed to win two flags since then to go with the one they won in 2007).

    • Too right... too many arrogant hawks supporter thought they were the best team of that year... rubbish! Couldn't make the final in 2009, finished lowly in 2010... hawks = best chokers team it may seem more appropriate!

  • Malceski's brilliant goals (first one was an absolute gem) and the second goal snap was almost a copy book replay of Chappy's magnificent 2009 grand final sealer in virtually identical circumstances ( teams were tied) after receiving a fast handpass from Varcoe out of the pack. Absolutely fantastic moments in football. Well done Nick Malceski

  • After having been written off at the end of 2010, the conclusion to 2011 was pretty fantastic. Not to mention a high quality match with multiple lead changes between two recent premiers both with excellent sides.

  • 1989 - what a game. Tough, rugged, hard hitting, but overall, a tough GF fought out with-in the rules. This was when real men played football, and the short-steppers did not get a look in.
