  • If the message the AFL was trying to send was "we don't give a stuff about doping or the health of players" they certainly succeeded. They obviously don't consider what Essendon did worse than trying slip a player a little extra cash without actually violating the salary cap. They obviously don't consider it much worse than trying to get to your preferred club, or much worse than laying a $10 bet, or worse than what Melbourne didn't do.

    As for the fines, give me a break. Fines are not punishment, and it's doubtful the AFL will ever receive the money anyway.

    The commission is guilty of bringing the sport into disrepute. They had only had to do one thing to show they actually cared, and that was give Hird a lifetime ban. Instead they gush over him like schoolboys over a supermodel. It's sickening.

    This is a slap on the wrist.Their points should be zero'd for 2 years..
