  • To anyone with brains the revelations tells you not to bet.Only criminals know the result and all the others are mugs. So if the mugs do not bet who cares as only criminals are betting with themselves. They cannot take your money!!

    • Betting on professional sport should be banned. Even with a drug-free competition, it's too open to fixing.

      Horse racing is corrupt beyond doubt, the only ones making money on that shambles are the jockeys and their connections who decide who wins.

    • Similar for drug use. Essentially, if people said 'no' the problem is instantly fixed.

      And yet we have these problems, even with all the attention & education. People simply can not say 'no' & the criminals know this... therefore the problem will NEVER cease.

    • We are all saturated in a betting culture. During the breaks in commercial radio all day whilst commentators wrung their hands in collective dis belief - the betting industry advertised their products. It is laughable.
      We tend to bury our heads about cheating - it is something foreigners do. Every year as the AFL players got bigger and faster and ran for longer - we put it down to conditioning. It is laughable.
      Big names in our sports are so adept at twisting in the wind that they do not even recognise when they are not telling the truth. I listened to one such person this afternoon try to claim he had not been following what had happened over the last few days. It is laughable.
      Others have got in early about the drug culture in the game. Aren't they smart and perceptive? It is laughable.

    • Wherever there is gambling corruption follows.

      However, there are other factors, too.

      Prior to the uproar over Shane Warne and Mark Waugh speaking to Indian bookmakers, many umpiring decisions in both cricket and the NRL were clearly made on the basis of "What effect will this decision have on the number of people who come to the next match?"

      That practice stopped immediately in both codes after the uproar.

      However last week's umpiring decision giving Devon Thomas out in the one day cricket match raises suspicion. It was not the first contentious 3rd umpire decision this summer.

    • One thing is for sure, no one can say Artie Beetson or anyone from that era was on performance enhancing drugs. Unless of course KB and Tooheys are performance enhancing.

    • Unfortunately it's the sponsor's money that has created the win at all costs mentality. As the unnamed player said "it's big business". Money, it's always about money. Back to the VFL for me.

  • Anyone suprised by Rec Drug use by Footballers (all codes) has rocks in their heads and living in another universe. They Love it on a Saturday night , partying like it's 1999. aaah I remember the days, ooops did I say that out aloud. Ha ha my bad.
