  • The obvious answer - play the tennis so there's no clash. It's ridiculous playing at 1 or 2 am just to please overseas audiences.

  • Start engraving names on the inside of the cup....

    ... after that convert to microdots. Should be space for a couple of millennia worth of tournament winners that way.

  • Just schedule the games so there is a womens match on at the time. Oh wait, then the rest of Melbourne would complain they cant hear the fireworks for all the shrieking.

  • Its Australia day, not 'apease the commercial tv networks day'. As much as the tennis is a great thing, it has to take second place to the national day. And play the tennis during the day again. That would take care of all problems.

  • WHY ON EARTH would they not delay the fireworks till
    the conclusion of the match? AND why would that not be one of the poll choices above?

    • Why on earth should they delay the fireworks or the tennis when there are so many other ways to resolve the issue. First, they can close the roof. Next they can move the firework to a later time slot or down the road to Albert Park Lake. Personally I favour the roof option.

  • Stop wasting money on Australia Day fireworks and give the allocated money to the hospitals. Win for the Open, WIN for the people of Victoria.
    Besides, they are very close to the NYE fireworks, another complete waste of money.
