Alleged dog kicker case in Queensland court

A man accused of animal cruelty after being caught allegedly kicking his dog at a Gold Coast beach has had his matter mentioned in court.

Brent Simpson, 32, did not appear at Southport Magistrates Court on Monday after being charged with one count of animal cruelty.

Mr Simpson was charged after footage of him allegedly yanking a young male Staffordshire terrier on a lead and kicking the animal went viral in January.

The person who posted the video said she had seen a man punch the dog with a closed fist.

The matter has been adjourned until May 14.
