Police have arrested a modern-day Ned Kelly wannabe, who allegedly tried to rob an Ipswich service station wearing a bucket on his head.

Police allege the 19-year-old entered the Ash Street store in Flinders View at 4.30am Monday and threatened the attendant with a chainsaw.

However, when the attendant didn’t comply with demands for money, the man fled with only a soft drink bottle.

Officers said he then damaged a nearby car before he was tracked by the dog squad.

The Leichhardt man’s charges include with armed robbery, public nuisance and unlawful possession of suspected stolen property. He was also charged with two counts of wilful damage.

He will face the Ipswich Magistrates Court later on Monday.
