California Lane is the third food and shopping hub by the Apostolos family, which showcases Fortitude Valley’s history and the best of Brisbane's creative culture.

Ms Hislop said she considered herself fortunate to find success in Brisbane through Instagram, joining various art markets and hosting ceramic painting workshops.

"I’ve heard it's having its biggest resurgence since the '70s and I think it's very true," she said.

"From working in ceramic houses, like the one in Newstead, there’s been an extreme passion and interest in the craft that's been building in the last couple of years and it hasn’t slowed down.

"Ceramics is so unique because so many things can go wrong in the process whether it's during the initial step, the glazing and firing phase, but if it's successful it might outlive you and last thousands of years."

Laneway developer Arthur Apostolos said he was glad to see Ms Hislop and other incoming additions joining the lane as it was evolving as a "makers lane".

"It's been very successful, especially with Chinese New Year events attracting a few people to the area," he said.

"We now have stores for jewellery, ceramics and clothing so we're evolving and it's very much a makers lane.

"Winn Lane is known for its streetwear style, Bakery Lane is a go-to foodie destination and for whatever reason California Lane has created its own character."

Mr Apostolos said the lanes were designed to create places where creative locals could flourish in a like-minded community.

Ms Hislop said she was glad to be part of the "laneway life" after joining one of the four lanes in the valley.

"I discovered the lanes in my teens and early 20s and feel like I've found something special," she said.

"It's definitely a right time, right place and a perfect fit for me because it is true when people say the laneways have a beautiful family community."

Ms Hislop said her space, which opened on Friday, would bring her career "full circle" after she had fallen in love with ceramics when she was eight-years-old.

"My mother took my sister and I to our first ceramic painting and she loved it so much that she began teaching classes and set up her own studio in our family home," she said.

"I'm now giving back to others and sharing the joy that I felt when I had my first class."

Ms Hislop said she was eager to share her showroom and teach people how to paint and create travel cups in her studio.

“I’m very passionate about nurturing creativity, as well as mindful making, and employing sustainable practices in my approach to the craft of ceramics," she said.

“I think we have enough ‘things’ in the world, so we should strive to create beautiful, useful pieces."
