"Jenny the new girl from Coles" is about to get very busy in Brisbane - the company has announced 31 new stores across the state, with 20 to be established in the Brisbane metro region.

Kedron, Alderley, Keperra, Mt Gravatt, Redbanks Plains, Mango Hill, Springfield, Rochedale and Bremer have all been earmarked for new stores, while Brookside, Taigum, Indooroopilly and Redcliffe are already under construction.

Andergrove, Rockhampton north, Bundaberg, Toowoomba and Hervey Bay are among the chosen regions across the state, with Coles also capitalising on the growing Sunshine Coast region.

Premier Campbell Newman, who toured the Brookside store in Mitchelton to make the announcement, said it equated to a $480 million investment from the Wesfarmers-owned Coles group, with 8000 new jobs created.

The Coles growth follows Bunnings announcing 20 new Queensland stores in February, which Mr Newman said would bring 8000 new jobs.
