Six fishermen have been winched from their boat after it struck a reef northeast of Mackay.

The fishermen sent out an urgent call for help about 2am after their boat, Barrier Star, hit Stevens Reef.

A RACQ CQ Rescue Helicopter responded to their call and began to winch them off the boat before 6am.

Volunteer Marine Rescue and Customs boats were also involved in the rescue.
