Carina Heights building fire under control

A building fire in Carina Heights has been brought under control.

Earlier it was reported that large volumes of smoke were billowing from the building.

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services received a call at 4pm reporting the fire and have sent six units and a breathing apparatus support unit to the site off Bendena Tce and Creek Rd, the fire was brought under control in less than an hour.

A Queensland Police spokesman said it was understood the building was a derelict nursing home and no one was living in the building.

Police advised residents in the nearby area to close doors and windows to avoid the smoke.
