Machete bandit chased off with broom on Gold Coast

Staff at a Gold Coast convenience store threw kitchen utensils and a broom to scare off a would-be armed robber on Tuesday night.

Police said the man entered the Labrador business on the corner of Bellevue Parade and Government Road about 7.25pm armed with what is believed to be a machete.

He threatened the store attendants and demanded cash, before they began throwing objects at him.

The offender, whose face was covered with a ski mask, then attempted to jump the counter but fell backwards, police said.

The man fled empty-handed and was last seen running east on Bellevue Parade.

He is described as Caucasian and was wearing grey shorts and a black hooded jumper with white printing on the hood and left sleeve. He was also wearing blue gloves.

Police said there were no injuries.
