Man armed with screwdriver surrenders after five hour siege

A man has surrendered himself to police after he had barricaded himself in a motel room south of Brisbane on Friday afternoon.

Police were called to a motel on Mains Road at Sunnybank at 1pm after reports a man, armed with a screwdriver, had barricaded himself in a room.

On arrival they found a man armed with a screwdriver, who refused to leave.

No one else was believed to be in the room and no one had been injured during the incident, police said.

An emergent situation was declared at 5pm.

After five hours of negotiations, the 43-year-old man surrendered himself to police and was in custody.
