Man charged after elderly couple stabbed

A man has been charged with the attempted murder of an elderly couple who were stabbed at their home in north Queensland.

Police will allege a man entered the couple’s home at Greenvale, west of Townsville, on Saturday night and stabbed the couple, aged in their 70s, during an altercation.

The elderly man and woman suffered significant injuries.

Both were taken to Townsville Base Hospital, where the man is in a critical condition with life-threatening injuries and the woman is in a stable condition.

Police say all three people know each other but haven’t given any further details with their investigations ongoing.

A 40-year-old Greenvale man has been charged with two counts of attempted murder, and one count each of grievous bodily harm, wounding and enter with intent.

He will appear in Townsville Magistrates Court on Monday.
