A man has died and a two-year-old girl has been rushed to hospital in a critical condition after two medical emergencies in Gold Coast residential pools on Saturday.

A 42-year-old Runaway Bay man drowned in a backyard pool at a residence on Oxley Drive in Paradise Point just before 3pm.
Police believe a friend of the victim lived at the address, with detectives treating the death as non-suspicious and preparing a report for the coroner.
Elsewhere, a toddler was rushed to Gold Coast University Hospital after a near-drowning at a home on Hoban Court in Nerang about 5.45pm.
Paramedics "worked on" the young girl at the scene, according to an ambulance service spokeswoman, before she was taken to hospital for further treatment.
