A 19-year-old man who was filmed being struck by police outside a nightclub in Queensland has appeared in court charged with committing a public nuisance.
A bystander’s video showing a police officer appearing to strike Beau Christopher Hall sparked a police investigation when it was published on YouTube last month.
The footage also showed Mr Hall apparently being kicked during the incident involving three officers in an alleyway in Brisbane’s Fortitude Valley nightclub precinct.
Mr Hall appeared briefly in Brisbane Magistrates Court on Wednesday charged with public nuisance.
Police will allege he ignored officer’s commands to stop urinating near the entrance to The Beat nightclub late on December 13.
It will be alleged Mr Hall became aggressive and shouted profanities at three officers before clenching his fists and pursing his lips as if to spit.
Police will claim officers retaliated by striking Mr Hall in the chest in a bid to create distance between them and him.
The teenager, who has made a formal complaint to police about the incident, declined to comment outside court.
His case was adjourned until January 29.
