Police investigate taser in the eye incident at Chinchilla

Police who responded to an incident at a Chinchilla residence are being investigated after the man was Tasered in the eye.

Shortly before 11pm on Friday, police were called to a residence on Zeller Street in response to reports of a man armed with knives and making threats.

Police said the man was in a highly agitated state and made verbal threats towards police.

After an extended verbal negotiation with police outside the house, the man picked up a knife and ran towards police through a security screen.

Police said a single Taser cycle was deployed but the man then attempted to pick up another knife, resulting in police deploying a second Taser cycle.

During the incident, the man was struck in his left eye by one of the Taser probes.

The man was restrained by police and then transported to Chinchilla Hospital for treatment.  This morning he was being transported to the Princess Alexandra Hospital in Brisbane for further treatment.

Ethical Standards Command will oversee an investigation into this incident.
