Police send helicopter to rescue men stuck on reef

Three men stuck on a boat off the coast of Mackay have been rescued by police.

The 15-metre steel trawler ran aground on a section of the Trogolby Reef at 2am on Monday, about 80 nautical miles east of Mackay.

The men activated an emergency beacon and provided police with regular updates.

A helicopter was dispatched at first light to rescue the men.

The three, aged 20, 28 and 69, were airlifted off the vessel around 7.15am and are reported to be safe and well, according to Queensland Police.
