Search for missing Noosa swimmer Ricky Gardner scaled back

Search crews are yet to locate a swimmer who ran into the ocean at Noosa Main Beach while being chased by police early Saturday.

Police searching for the Ricky Gardner, 37, admit they still do not know if he made it out of the water after he plunged into the surf in a bid to escape arrest about 12.30am on Saturday.

He was last seen swimming into the darkness after police chased him from Hastings Street, where they had attempted to arrest him on minor public nuisance offences.

A search commenced after he went missing and continued throughout Saturday and Sunday.

It has been scaled back on Monday and police have urged anyone with information that Mr Gardner got out of the ocean to contact them.

Mr Gardner had no fixed address and was believed to be living in a van while visiting the Sunshine Coast.

Police released an image of a car Mr Gardner was thought to be travelling in on Sunday, however, on Monday they said it had been eliminated from the investigation after being found interstate.

"Sunshine Coast police are continuing to ascertain if Mr Gardner exited the water at Noosa Main Beach on Saturday morning, and continue to appeal for anyone with any information to contact them," the statement read.
