A tourist has died while snorkelling on the Great Barrier Reef.
The Pakistani national, whose age was yet to be released, was last seen swimming away from a boat moored near Briggs Reef, about 50 kilometres east of Cairns, at 12.30pm.
A search and rescue mission including water police and a rescue helicopter was launched when he'd failed to return by 2pm.
A police spokeswoman said the man's body was found in the water about 4.20pm and taken back to the mainland.
Police will prepare a report for the coroner.
