Date

Two young women were beaten with a tree branch this morning in an attack in central Queensland.

Police said the 24-year-old and 21-year-old were walking along Blackboy Road in Woorabinda when a man approached them holding a tree branch at 6.15am.

He hit the older of the women in the face and back with the branch forcing her to the ground before turning on the 21-year-old who was screaming for help.

The man hit her in the face with the branch and then started punching her in the head as she fell to the ground.

He started to hit the 24-year-old again and she managed to fend him off with a stick forcing him to run away.

The 24-year-old woman suffered facial injuries and bruising to her arm, shoulder and back.

The 21-year-old woman suffered facial injuries.

Both women received medical treatment and investigations by police are continuing.
